Manning Award watch list features five ACC QBs

The ACC is loaded with great quarterbacks this season. If you don’t believe me, just ask the Manning Award committee and they will tell you the same thing.

College Football Talk released the Manning Award watch list Thursday afternoon and it is loaded with some of the nation’s best quarterbacks this season. Trevone Boykin of TCU, Cody Kessler of USC, and Dak Prescott of Mississippi State are the only three 2014 finalists to make the list. That isn’t the biggest storyline from the list, however.

The ACC boasts five quarterbacks on the list this season, which is an unheard number. That means the conference makes up 1/6 of the full list. Jacoby Brisset of NC State, Brad Kaaya of Miami, Justin Thomas of Georgia Tech, Deshaun Watson of Clemson, and Marquise Williams of UNC all made the list.

“We’re very excited about the group of quarterbacks on our Watch List,” said Archie Manning, who along with his sons Peyton and Eli are the namesakes of the annual award. “And once the season gets rolling, I am sure we will see additional quarterbacks become worthy of inclusion as they establish themselves, so we will make some additions.”

The SEC is second on the list with four quarterbacks on the list. Every conference was represented by at least one player with Kevin Ellison from Georgia Southern representing the Sun Belt, Brandon Doughty from Western Kentucky in Conference USA, Connor Cook from Michigan State in the Big Ten, Blake Frohpnafel from UMass in the MAC, Joe Gray from San Jose State in the Mountain West, and Keenan Reynolds from Navy in the AAC.
