Virginia Tech has never beaten an AP No. 1 team

The Virginia Tech Hokies have done a lot in their near thirty years under coach Frank Beamer. They have been in the national championship game. They have won multiple ACC and Big East championships.

They have even gone nearly undefeated in a season.

But there is one thing the Hokies have never done, even before Beamer came to Blacksburg. The ESPN College Football Twitter account posted an interesting graphic about how the team has never beaten an AP number one team.

The team has played against the number one team eight times since 1979 and in every game, they have come out on the losing end of the stick. This is the first time the Hokies have played a number one team from the Big Ten, so there is certainly a first time for everything.

Maybe the ninth time will be the charm for the Hokies as they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
