Illinois’ running game was short-handed enough when Josh Ferguson went down, but now his backup could be on the sidelines for this weekend’s game against Minnesota.
According to the Illini’s injury report, as reported by John Taylor of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk, backup Ke’Shawn Vaughn is dealing with a concussion he suffered against Ohio State last weekend and is not quite symptom free just yet.
Vaughn is the team’s leading rusher with 661 yards and six touchdowns, but the silver lining in all of this is that Ferguson has indeed returned to the field. He only had 49 yards on 12 carries against Ohio State last weekend, but turned in a 133-yard performance against Purdue the week before.
Against Minnesota, he should have no problem shouldering most of the load if Vaughn is unable to go.
Campus Sports will update Vaughn’s condition as the countdown to kickoff continues.
Kickoff in Minneapolis is slated for 12 p.m. ET on ESPNN.
