I want you to stop right now and name one great Alabama quarterback in the NFL in the last 20 years. Go ahead, I’ll wait. I bet you couldn’t do it, huh?
When you think of great players to come out of Alabama you immediately think of players like Mark Ingram, CJ Mosely, Rolando McClain, and Eddie Lacy. None of those players are quarterbacks and that’s because there hasn’t been a terrific quarterback to come out of Tuscaloosa since the late, great Ken Stabler.
According to Mike Griffith of MLive, an Alabama quarterback hasn’t won an NFL game that they started since 1988.
The Crimson Tide has won four national championships since 1992 and three since 2009. However, even with some of the terrific quarterbacks in that stretch from Brodie Croyle, who is 0-10 in his career, to John Parker Wilson, who has a great quarterback name.
Now this doesn’t mean that Nick Saban and the coaches before haven’t have done a great job since then, but it is still a pretty impressive stat.
