During his second stint with the USC Trojans, many fans were hoping that Ed Orgeron would become the team’s full-time head coach. Unfortuantely, he was not retained and ultimately found his way to Les Miles’ staff in Baton Rouge.
However, a return to Los Angeles could soon be in the cards for the LSU Tigers defensive line coach.
According to reports, new USC head coach Clay Helton has reached out to Orgeron to gauge his interest in a third stint with the Trojans. FootballScoop passed along news of the contact between the two parties.
“Sources tell FootballScoop that Clay Helton is planning to make a number of staff changes following the season,” the report read.
“One source told FootballScoop that Helton has spoken with Ed Orgeron. O and Helton are good friends and have a deep respect for each other. Will be interesting to see if anything comes of this.”
USC fans would likely love to see “Coach O” back with the team, but could Orgeron forgive Trojans athletic director Pat Haden for spurning him in favor of Steve Sarkisian?
Only time will tell, but if Orgeron is willing to join Helton’s staff it would be a great get for the new USC head coach.
