WCC suspends BYU’s Nick Emery for punch

Not even 24 hours after being ejected from BYU’s loss to Utah, BYU guard Nick Emery has been suspended by the West Coast Conference. Emery punched Utah guard Brandon Taylor in the second half of yesterday’s game.

Since Emery was hit with a flagrant 2 foul, he automatically has to sit out BYU’s next game. BYU plays Weber State this weekend. The WCC has not indicated any further punishment for Emery.

Emery apologized to Taylor, Utah and fans of both teams for his actions in a press release.

“I apologize to Brandon Taylor for the incident that happened in the game last night,” Emery said in a statement.

“He’s a great competitor and I got caught up in the intensity of the game and let my emotions get the best of me. I also want to apologize to Coach Krystkowiak, his team, the fans of both schools, and my teammates and coaches.’

Sophomore Jacob Toolson will most likely start in Emery’s place for BYU’s matchup against in-state opponent Weber State.
