Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones has received a raise, per a tweet from the football program.
Next question: what on God’s green earth did Jones do to earn a raise? Sure, the Vols went 8-4 (5-3 SEC) last year and earned a date with Northwestern in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, and the team does appear to be improving under Jones, but the team hasn’t even remotely contended in the SEC since Jones arrived.
More importantly, why give Jones a raise when he just got an extension a year ago? That extension wasn’t entirely deserved either, but this is about the raise. Maybe it was in the contract, maybe it was just because the administration likes Jones, but one thing is certain. This move is a head scratcher, to say the least.
