Cal Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff is likely NFL Draft-bound, and one scout offered an interesting pro comparison.
Speaking to NFL.com’s Chase Goodbread, the scout compared Goff to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
“In terms of arm talent, he’ll be like Cutler,” the scout said. “Skinny kid. Gets hit a bunch. Doesn’t see everything. Accuracy is off at times. But he can really spin it and has really good feet.”
That’s a bit of a back-handed comment, as Cutler is 66-65 in his NFL career and has indeed struggled with interceptions and getting sacked, though he does have better footwork than many say.
But Goff had a pretty solid 2015 season, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,247 yards and 37 touchdowns to go with 13 picks, so is the Cutler comparison really fair? Just the same, let’s not forget that he played in a pass-happy offense, while Cutler plays in a more balanced system in Chicago.
Needless to say, once Goff inevitably declares for the draft, his stock will be one to watch.
