The Class of 2017’s top quarterback has created some major news. Hunter Johnson, who currently plays at Indiana’s Brownsburg High School, in the Indianapolis area, has flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Clemson. Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports reported Johnson’s decision on Twitter.
Johnson himself addressed his decision, which comes after a visit to Clemson this past Friday.
“Myself and my family both just felt like it was the right spot for me,” Johnson said. “I felt like I had a connection there when I went there. It wasn’t something I was seeking out. I felt confident with my earlier decision of Tennessee at the time, but once I got there it felt right to me.”
And what a choice Johnson has made. Rather than head to play for Butch Jones’ Volunteers in the hyper-competitive SEC, he’ll instead head to Dabo Swinney’s fast-paced Tigers offense. Given how Deshaun Watson should be NFL-bound by the time Johnson arrives on campus, he should become an immediate impact player.
