North Carolina Tar Heels forward Kennedy Meeks has a bone bruise on his left knee and will be out at least two weeks. Meeks’ upcoming absence was announced by the university and reported on Twitter by Jeff Fischel of the ACC Digital Network.
Meeks, a junior from Charlotte, is averaging 12.3 points and 7.4 boards and it is unknown when he suffered the injury. He is one of the Tar Heels’ best and most experienced frontcourt presences and will be a huge loss now that he is set to miss extended time. In his place, expect either Justin Jackson or Theo Pinson to step up their respective games in the rebounding department.
This injury could not have come at a worse time for UNC, who lost to an unranked opponent in Texas last weekend and fell to 7-2. Next is an easier game against Tulane on Wednesday, but the No. 11 Tar Heels have to play No. 22 UCLA at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday. Given how the Bruins beat Kentucky not too long ago, losing Meeks could prove to be crippling on the cusp of conference play’s start.
Campus Sports will update Meeks’ recovery as it progresses and provide any updates to this story.
