New South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp will retain offensive line coach Shawn Elliott, who went 1-5 (1-3 SEC) on an interim basis following the resignation of Steve Spurrier in October. Elliott’s retention was announced on Twitter by ESPN’s Joe Schad.
Though there was a great deal of speculation surrounding Elliot’s future following Muschamp’s hiring, this isn’t really a surprise. Elliott has been with the Gamecocks since 2010 and has earned a reputation as a solid assistant since then.
That all being said, though Muschamp is surely going to bring some of his own staff with him to South Carolina, Elliott and his family can look forward to some job security since he has essentially become a permanent member of the Gamecocks family after doing fine work under Spurrier.
