Ohio State four-star freshman forward Mickey Mitchell has been declared eligible by the NCAA and thus cleared to play, the university announced. Associate AD for Communications Dan Wallenberg also posted an announcement on Twitter.
Mitchell, who previously starred at Plano West High School in the Dallas area, is a winger whose biggest strength now is his versatility and three-point shooting. Given how Ohio State has stumbled to a 5-5 start and could use an injection of life into its rotation, Mitchell could easily provide that once he gets his legs under him, which could be sooner rather than later. Though he has not been able to play, he has been practicing with the team and knows coach Thad Matta’s system.
With a game against powerhouse Kentucky at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center tomorrow, the Buckeyes will need all the help they can get, from Mitchell and everybody else. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
