Gonzaga basketball team to star in HBO reality series

Over the past several years, it’s become apparent that sports fans are really into television programming that focuses on behind-the-scenes aspects of various teams. According to an AP report, the latest team to be a part of this trend will be the Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball team, who will star in an HBO series titled “Gonzaga: The March to Madness.”

The show is set to debut on February 16 and conclude on March 15, the first day of the NCAA Tournament. It will begin in November during the team’s non-conference schedule and will also include West Coast Conference games.

Gonzaga is certainly an interesting team to pick for this project, as HBO Sports has never chosen a college program as the main focus of such programming, and the Bulldogs have never won a championship. Thus, one would think that a more established school with championship history like Duke, Kentucky or even Michigan State would be the one picked for this new show.

But let’s not also forget that Gonzaga coach Mark Few is one of the most charismatic coaches in the game and led the program to its best ever finish last year at 35-3 (17-1 WCC) and the Bulldogs making the Elite Eight was a personal best for him. Gonzaga is also running hot again this year at 13-3 (5-0 WCC), so perhaps being more available on a national level is just what Gonzaga needs in order to take another step forward.
