Oral Roberts University to require all freshman to wear Fitbits

You better believe Oral Roberts has heard of the “freshman 15” and believe in it. Even better, they’re doing something about it.

While the university has always required their students to engage in good fitness practices, they are taking it up a notch by requiring all freshman to wear Fitbits throughout their first year on campus. In the past they made it mandatory for students to log their aerobic activity in a journal.

Information captured on the Fitbit such as physical activity and diet will be recorded within the university’s education management system. The information recorded will affect students’ grades the school said. Thus far it is unclear how much exercise will be required.

“ORU offers one of the most unique educational approaches in the world by focusing on the Whole Person — mind, body and spirit,” ORU President William M. Wilson said in a statement. “The marriage of new technology with our physical fitness requirements is something that sets ORU apart.”
