Video: Basketball star who wants to play in NFL shows off crazy athleticism

Rico Gathers is a senior power forward for the Baylor Bears and though he is averaging 11.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, he really wants to play in the NFL.

Gathers certainly has the size for it at 6-foot-8, 275 pounds and could probably make a fantastic tight end, but there’s a slight problem: he’s never played college football. Still, that didn’t stop Gathers from taking this video and posting it to Twitter.

Needless to say, his athleticism with the pig skin will blow your mind.

Check it out.

Gathers didn’t attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis for obvious reasons, what with Baylor’s season still going on, but what he did was still pretty impressive.

On top of that, he wouldn’t be the first college basketball player to make the jump to the NFL. San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates played basketball at Kent State without ever playing a down for the football team, and was still signed as an undrafted free agent. Today, he has eight Pro Bowls to his name and is a surefire Hall of Famer.

Similarly, Jimmy Graham played football and basketball at Miami, though he only spent one year on the gridiron. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2009 draft and is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Gathers himself has an uphill battle if he wants to achieve his NFL dream but given how determined he is, it wouldn’t be a shock to see a team take a flier on him based on this video alone.
