O.co Coliseum renamed Oakland Coliseum again

With everything that has been going on with the Oakland Raiders the last few months, one more problem that may cause them move out of California sooner rather than later is the fact that their stadium is now going to be called Oakland Coliseum once again.

According to the Contra Costa Times, the stadium’s owner of naming rights, retail giant Overstock.com, has opted out of the last year on its six-year contract. This has caused the Raiders’ and Oakland Athletics’ home stadium to be renamed Oakland Coliseum again.

The company had one final year left on the contract, which was signed for a total of just $7.2 million in 2011. In comparison, Sports Authority has been paying $6 million per year to put its name on the Broncos’ Mile-High Stadium, and that is just a one-sport stadium.

The last time the stadium went without a major sponsor was from 2008-2011 when McAfee Inc. declined to extend its deal for naming rights. The Raiders have been looking for a new home, either in the city or elsewhere, with Las Vegas and San Antonio being big options.

This is just another reason for them to want to move out of the state and it could be happening sooner rather than later.
