NFL Draft 2016: Seven teams called Panthers about No. 30 pick

The Carolina Panthers ended up selecting Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Vernon Butler with their first round pick Thursday night. However, it seems like the Panthers might not have been sticking around at No. 30 before actually making the pick.

According to Josh Norris of NBC Sports, seven teams called the Panthers about possibly trading into that spot late in the first round. However, they decided to stick around after seeing that Butler was just too good.

In the first round, there were a total of five trades, including two in the top ten and more than double than the entire first round last year. This doesn’t include the three previous trades leading up to the draft this year.

Butler certainly looks like a great piece for the Panthers, but I am sure this won’t be the last of the trades going forward for the rest of the weekend.
