Ole Miss is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in spite of the fact that former star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil was drafted into the NFL last night. Shortly after Tunsil was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 13 pick, screenshots of text messages between himself and assistant AD John Miller were posted to his Instagram and in the texts, Tunsil asked for money to help pay his mother’s bills.
Tunsil did later admit to reporters that he did accept money from Ole Miss’ staff, and the university released a short statement on the matter that was posted to Twitter by ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
This certainly doesn’t help matters on Ole Miss’ end, as the university is already under investigation by the NCAA for violations that occurred in the football and track programs the past few years. If it is indeed determined that Tunsil received improper benefits under coach Hugh Freeze’s watch, then the football program could find itself in even more hot water.
