Mike Krzyzewski expected to coach five more years

One thing that has been consistent for nearly four decades now is Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. He came to the Duke Blue Devils in 1980 after spending five seasons with the Army Black Knights and he has been one of the most dominant coaches of all time since then.

It looks like Blue Devils fans have nothing to worry about at least for the next few years. Duke athletic director Kevin White recently spoke with the The New & Observer and said that he expects Krzyzewski to coach out the five-year extension currently in place on his contract.

“Mike has a five-year contract in place and his intention is to honor that contract at a minimum,” White told the paper on Tuesday “Given his unparalleled passion for leadership and the sport of basketball, it would not surprise me at all if Mike coaches beyond his current contract. To be sure, and I’ve said this many times, we have the greatest coach at any level and in any sport representing Duke University. So I’d stand behind any of that. And he’s in great shape.”

During his 35 years as head coach with the Blue Devils, Mike Krzyzewski has racked up 970 wins and became the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history. He has also racked up five national championships, including two of the last six.

There is no doubt Mike Krzyzewski is one of the top coaches in the game of college basketball today. Fans can only hope his career extends for just a few years longer.
