Rick Neuheisel: Laremy Tunsil situation will go away quietly for Ole Miss

During the 2016 NFL Draft, former Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil had a string of unfortunate social media mishaps before admitting to accepting payments from Ole Miss coaches.

Everyone has been anxiously awaiting a response from the NCAA or Rebels, but so far there has been silence other than the report that an “investigation is underway.”

But will the situation ever blow up? Not if you ask CBS college football analyst Rick Neuheisel, who recently appeared as a guest on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly. Neuheisel apparently caught up with Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze a last weekend and it doesn’t appear that there is much concern.

“In talking with Hugh, and I’m not at liberty to tell you everything he told me, I feel very comfortable that (the current NCAA investigation) will go away and go away quietly because I don’t feel like Ole Miss has anything really at risk here with respect to having done anything wrong,” Neuheisel said, as transcribed by Saturday Down South.

“They have answers for everything that took place… I feel comfortable based on the information I got that there’s answers. Hopefully the NCAA will realize they are legitimate answers.”

Ole Miss seems to be fully cooperating, but there has to be much more to the story.

With an allegation as serious as accepting money from a member of the coaching staff, we find it highly unlikely that the NCAA will let this go away quietly.
