For the last few years, the New York Yankees have hosted the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Now, they could be in play for a regular season college football game.
According to reports, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are planning to have a regular season game at the stadium in the near future.
Athletic director Pat Hobbs talked about the possibility of the Scarlet Knights hosting a game in Yankee Stadium before throwing out the first pitch at Tuesday’s game. He said that the team wants to work with the school a lot more in the future.
“(The Yankees) want to work more closely with us,” Hobbs said. “We want to look at maybe bringing a game here and announcing that sometime down the road. I guess the Yankees see Rutgers is starting to move forward and is a good story so they want to be part of it, too.”
The Scarlet Knights are no strangers to playing games at Yankee Stadium. They played a regular season “road” game against Army in 2011 and have played in two of the six Pinstripe Bowls since it came into existence in 2010.
