Garbine Muguruza upsets Serena Williams to win French Open

There was a major surprise at Roland Garros on Saturday, as fourth-seeded Garbine Muguruza upset Serena Williams in straight sets,  7-5, 6-4, to claim the 2016 French Open title.

“I can’t explain with words how this day means to me,” Muguruza said after the win. “You work all your life to get here.”

It is the second time Muguruza has defeated Serena Williams at the French Open in three years, but Saturday’s victory was the sweetest yet. The win earned Muguruza the first Grand Slam title of her career.
