Chip Kelly sees Colin Kaepernick, Blaine Gabbert as similar players

The San Francisco 49ers have a pretty big decision to make when it comes to the quarterback position right now. It looks like either Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert could win the spot, but neither player has emerged as the favorite.

Head coach Chip Kelly recently talked about the two quarterbacks and he seemed to have a lot of good to say about them. He compared the two players in both size and skill saying that either one of them could fit well in their style of offense.

“They’re similar. They have a similar skill set,” Kelly told 95.7 The Game, via NinersNation.com. “They’re both 6-foot-4-plus. They both can really run, which will help keep plays alive. Obviously, we’re not a quarterback-run offense, but if the quarterback can run, you can use a little of that to your advantage. And they both have extremely strong arms. So, from a skill set standpoint, the two of them are kind of cut out of the same mold.”

Before the 2015 season, many would have said it was crazy to believe that Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick could have been compared. The latter was seen as one of the rising stars in the NFL, while the former was sen as one of the biggest busts in recent memory.

However, now it certainly seems like one of the two will end up being the starting guy for the 49ers going into the 2016 season.
