NCAA baseball tournament 2016: East Carolina advances to Super Regional

The 2016 NCAA baseball tournament is well under way and we have already seen a good share of upsets throughout the Regional Round. One of the biggest so far is the East Carolina Pirates as they have gone undefeated through the Charlottesville Regional to clinch the second Super Regional berth this year.

The third-seeded Pirates wrapped up their perfect regional run with an 8-4 win over the William & Mary Tribe on Sunday. The team was paced by a pair two-run home runs by Eric Tyler and Travis Watkins in the fifth inning, which gave them their big lead.

The game was also full of web gems like this fantastic double play completed by first baseman Bryce Harman and Tyler.

East Carolina received a little help in their Regional as the defending national champions and host team, Virginia, fell to the Tribe in an elimination game. However, they would not have been there without the Pirates pulling the 8-6 upset on Friday.

The Pirates will now wait for their next opponent as it could likely mean a trip to Lubbock to face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are looking to clinch a Super Regional berth with a win over Dallas Baptist tonight.
