Last week, Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh swung through Atlanta for one of his many satellite camps. During the Atlanta stop, he met with Braves legend Hank Aaron.
According to reports, Harbaugh asked Aaron during that meeting to be an honorary captain for the football team.
Before you think it is some random request, Aaron does actually have some ties to Michigan. As it turns out, Aaron’s granddaughter, Emily Haydel, is a student at the university and she works for the football recruiting department.
“It is pretty cool to see,” Haydel told Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press. “It’ll be cool to see what they do in the future, too. They talked about a coin flip, an honorary captain. So I’m excited to see.
“It’s like there’s no limits to anything that’s going on. Signing of the Stars was above and beyond anything. These satellite camps, obviously everyone else is opposed to it. But it’s like Harbaugh said, ‘We’re doing things people never even thought of.’”
How great is that?
Harbaugh has been taking the recruiting rules to the limit and is doing everything he can find to get an advantage. Bringing in a legend to be around your team is just another perk of joining the Wolverines program.
