2017 PG Jerald Butler commits to Butler

The Butler Bulldogs have made their latest addition to the 2017 recruiting class thanks to a prospect with a very appropriate name. On Friday night, three-star point guard recruit Jerald Butler announced his decision to commit to the program.

Butler, a standout at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, made his announcement at his school on Friday.

He later shared the news on social media.

“I’m extremely blessed to say I will be playing at Butler University next year to continue my basketball career,” Butler wrote.

While his last name and the university’s are a funny coincidence, it actually helped the Bulldogs land the point guard prospect who had 20 offers. And after visiting the campus, Butler knew that Butler should be his home.

“When I went to go see it with my own eyes, I loved everything about it – the campus, Indianapolis, I loved downtown, I loved the locker room and the players in the locker room,” he said, via the Indianapolis Star. “They’re some great guys, guys I can see myself being with for four years.

“I started paying attention when they were in the Final Four and March Madness. Playing for Butler was a dream come true. I just said it would be cool to play for a school that had my same last name. I never thought it would really happen.”

The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder is currently rated as the No. 27 point guard in his class and the No. 14 player in the state of Florida. It’s a great get for Chris Holtmann and his program.
