WVU freshman LB Brendan Ferns goes down with knee injury

Some expect the West Virginia Mountaineers to finally take a step forward after the 8-5 2015 season was their best since joining the Big 12. If they are going to do that, they will likely do so without one of the best linebackers to ever commit to the team.

It was reported by 247Sports’ Chris Anderson that true freshman linebacker Brendan Ferns suffered a knee injury during practice on Monday. This could be a big blow for the Mountaineers as the four-star signee was expected to play a second-string role for the team this year.

Ferns was hit with a non-contact injury, which is never a good sign when it comes to the knee. However, the team won’t put a timetable on his return until after Tuesday morning’s MRI.

Brendan Ferns joins the Mountaineers out of Saint Clairsville, Ohio. He was the No. 7 inside linebacker in the country, making him the highest-rated linebacker in team history and the seventh-highest rated overall recruit.
