Colorado WR Juwann Winfree tears ACL, out for 2016

During the 2015 season, the Colorado Buffaloes lost a huge piece of their offense when quarterback Sefo Liufau went down with a Lis Franc foot injury. Now it looks like they have taken a big blow ahead of 2016 after wide receiver Juwann Winfree went down with a torn ACL.

It was reported by BSN Denver on Friday that the junior had suffered the knee injury and would likely miss the entire season. That was later confirmed by the team with a released statement Friday evening.

We all really feel for Juwann, he is a phenomenal young man and has fit in really well on our team,” head coach Mike MacIntyre said. “Unfortunately this is what can happen in football. But Juwann is a very positive young man and no doubt will work hard in his rehabilitation and will be back for 2017.”

Winfree’s career began at Maryland in 2014, where recorded 154 yards and two touchdowns on 11 receptions before transferring to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, where he recorded 837 yards and seven touchdowns in 2015.

He will still have two years of eligibility left starting in 2017, after he uses his redshirt for the 2016 season.
