On Monday, it was reported that inaugural WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor had suffered an injury during his match for the title against Seth Rollins during SummerSlam Sunday night. Now, just hours after it was originally reported, WWE has announced he will have to relinquish the championship.
Reports said that Balor could have suffered anything from a dislocated should to a torn labrum. MRIs determined the latter, meaning The Demon King would have to have surgery on his shoulder, which will keep him out “anywhere from four to six months.”
The injury happened after Rollins powerbombed Balor into the barricade. The details of the injury are pretty gruesome.
“He hit the wall during the match, dislocated his shoulder and was able to put it back in himself in a split second,” said ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson. Bálor was able to finish the match, but Dr. Robinson noted that an MRI yielded results earlier today showing “a possible labrum tear.”
General Manager Mick Foley made the announcement about Balor giving up the title tonight.
This is certainly a terrible way for Balor’s career on the main roster to get started.
