Alabama football: Cooper Bateman, Blake Barnett to play vs. USC

Nick Saban will be playing two quarterbacks for the Alabama Crimson Tide’s season-opener against USC this weekend. On Monday, the Alabama football coach announced both Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett will see action against the Trojans.

There had been previous reports that Jalen Hurts was the Crimson Tide’s No. 1 guy, but Saban said Bateman and Barnett will continue to battle for the starting job while they split reps.

Last season, Bateman threw for threw for 291 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Barnett, meanwhile, is a former five-star recruit who has yet to see any college action.
