Dalvin Cook enters the 2016 college football season as one of the top players in the nation and a Heisman Trophy favorite. And now, the Florida State star running back is drawing comparisons to a four-time NFL Pro Bowler.
The fine folks at NFL Media spoke to a number of people in college and NFL circles to get the current buzz on Cook, and it is overwhelming positive.
One NFC Scout told NFL.com that Cook reminds him of Kansas City Chiefs star Jamaal Charles.
“I think Dalvin could be a high 4.3s guy (in the 40-yard dash) at the (NFL Scouting) Combine, and his value on third down is going to make him a weapon. I see a Jamaal Charles-type guy with his great vision and open-field ability,” the scout said.
A general manager also compared Cook and Charles.
“Dalvin Cook reminds me of Jamaal Charles. He doesn’t quite have the same top speed but he is a very natural runner and can really catch the ball,” he noted.
Last season, Cook rushed for 1,691 yards and 19 touchdowns, while hauling in 24 catches for 244 yards and an additional score.
If he can live up to expectations once again in 2016, Cook should be well on his way to being present at the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York later this year and a high draft pick in 2017.
