Report: Big 12 narrows list to ‘six to eight’ schools

The Big 12 will be expanding out to add a number of teams over the next few months and it certainly seems like they have narrowed the list down to just a few names. It was reported on Tuesday that the conference has sent out a “preferred list” of schools to add into the conference and it includes a large number of AAC schools.

Mark Blaudschun of The Boston Globe reported via TMG College Sports that there are about “six to eight” schools on the Big 12’s list going into the immediate future. This list includes names that have been thrown around for most of 2016 and they will likely make a final case in Dallas over the next few weeks.

This list includes the AAC’s Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, UConn, South Florida and Central Florida, independent school BYU and, surprisingly, two teams from the ACC. it should be interesting what the Big 12 decides to do in the coming months.

Whatever happens, it certainly seems this Power Five conference will be back to 12 teams, if not more, in the near future.
