Video: Lou Holtz talks accountability with Texas, does magic tricks

The Texas Longhorns open the 2016 season on Sunday when they host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a rematch of last year’s season opener. The Longhorns got a bit of a surprise on Tuesday when former Irish coach Lou Holtz visited the team’s training camp and gave them a bit of a motivational speech.

He first told the team about all the assistant coaches he had in the past, including Ohio State’s Urban Meyer. He boasted about Charlie Strong being the best he had ever had and that brought up his message of accountability.

Notre Dame is a lot like here. There’s always a message out there that something is wrong,” Strong said. “But [Holtz] said, ‘If players don’t see that in you as a coach, then their response will be the same as you. But if you make a big deal about it, they’ll make a bigger deal about it.”

Holtz, who is the grandfather of Texas quarterback Trey Holtz, then entertained the Longhorns by doing an old magic trick. It was pretty cool and makes you wonder where he got those skills from.

It is going to be a very interesting game when the Longhorns meet up with the Irish in Austin on Sunday.
