Deandre Ayton, top 2017 recruit, commits to Arizona

The Arizona basketball program received some great news on Tuesday when Deandre Ayton, the top high school basketball recruit in the Class of 2017, announced his commitment to the Wildcats.

Ayton chose Arizona over top-tier programs like Kentucky and Kansas.

With the addition of the 7-foot center, the Wildcats welcome the highest-ranked commitment of the ESPN 100 era. The previous top recruits for Arizona, Aaron Gordon in 2013 and Kaleb Tarczewski in 2012, were the fourth-ranked players in their respective classes.

It’s a major get for Sean Miller’s squad, which also has a commitment from four-star point guard Alex Barcello.

What does Ayton bring to the Wildcats? An active big man with unlimited potential — and did we mention a 7-foot-5 wing span? — who can be a factor from all over the court.

Just have a look:

It will be fun to see how Ayton’s skills transition to the next level. From the surface, it looks like the Pac-12 has a scary big man ready to dominate the court in the near future.
