LSU mascot Mike the Tiger will not attend home games

Earlier this year, LSU’s live tiger mascot Mike VI was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and was given up to two years to live. Because of this, he will not be attending any of the Tigers’ home football games.

The team released a statement on the tiger, saying he would remain in his natural habitat for the upcoming season. Mike VI has not attended home games since last October.

“LSU understands that the tradition of having Mike on the field on game day is important; however, Mike’s health, safety and well-being are always our top priority,” the statement said.

In June, Mike VI underwent treatment for his cancer, which had produced a tumor on his forehead that had closed of his eyes. The size of that tumor reduced after the surgery and he regained vision, but there is still a small chance that he would be able to survive the disease.

Campus Sports would like to send their well wishes to Mike on his road to recovery.
