Utah LB Sunia Tauteoli named FWAA/Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week

With Week 3 of the 2016 college football season just around the corner, the FWAA has announced Utah Utes linebacker Sunia Tauteoli has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week.

Tauteoli earned the honor for his standout performance in the Utes’ 20-19 victory over arch-rival BYU.

On the very first play from scrimmage last Saturday, Tauteoli recorded his first career interception and returned it 41-yards for a touchdown. He added a second interception later in the game, while contributing six tackles.

As a result of his Week 2 honor, Tauteoli will be added to the Bronko Nagurski Watch List for the remainder of the season. The National Defensive Player of the Year award finalists will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Tauteoli and the Utes return to action against San Jose State on the road as they look to advance to 3-0 on the year.
