Video: Jake Butt didn’t always like being a ‘Butt’

Jake Butt has a name that is easy to poke fun at. It’s a last name that lends itself to having school children tee-off on you, particularly when you’re also a school-aged child.

In a recent ESPN interview, Butt spilled on his last name and what it’s been like to grow up with his last name.

As you would expect, it wasn’t always easy being a Butt.

Butt wanted to have his last name changed to “Jackson” as a child, a name he apparently felt was more difficult to make fun of than Butt. No arguments here.

It’s no surprise he struggled as a child, but it seems that Butt has found a way to turn his last name into a disarming topic of conversation. And while Butt has played well for a No. 4 ranked Michigan team, if it weren’t for his last name, he would have had a much harder time securing the coverage that he has gotten this year.
