Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield earns national honor for Week 5

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield has picked up a national honor for his standout performance against the TCU Horned Frogs in Week 5 of the 2016 college football season.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Mayfield has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week.

Mayfield threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another two scores on the ground in a 52-46 win over the No. 21 Horned Frogs. The junior quarterback finished the game with 274 passing yards and 55 yards rushing.

“I thought he was exceptional today,” said head coach Bob Stoops in a statement. “He threw some great balls deep for touchdowns and got some great third downs.”

Through four games this season, Mayfield has thrown for 1,067 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions, while rushing for 59 yards and two additional scores.
