Female high school kicker lays the wood on kick returner

The kicker is usually the smallest person on the field during kickoffs. Considered fragile in the football world, their duty on kickoffs is to kick it deep and get out of the way.

However, lately there’s been no dearth of kickers getting low and delivering a shot to the kick-returner. In recent weeks, we’ve seen 256-pound Penn State kicker Joey Julius target (and become the target) of hits on kickoffs, and now there’s Kelly Macnamara.

Macnamara, a girl who kicks for her high school football team, doesn’t seem interested in staying out of the scrum. Nobody would bat an eye if she chose to hang back, but she seems more interested in laying the boom.

Check it out:

That kid got rocked. It looked like he was going to try and cut back inside, but she was all over him.

It’s encouraging to see this kind of thing. In a sport that is largely off limits to women, and not without practical reasons, Kelly Macnamara is doing her bit to be the exception. Try her out at safety.
