Former Texas Tech Red Raider quarterback Baker Mayfield is returning to his old digs this weekend, when his new team Oklahoma visits Jones AT&T stadium. Mayfield originally joined Texas Tech as a walk-on, then left over a controversy with his scholarship.
He transferred and joined the storied Oklahoma Sooner program as a result of the fallout.
Appreciative of the challenges and the journey that have put me in the position I have today. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The Jones will be rocking tonight, let's have some fun Sooner Nation. #TheKidIsBack
Mayfield posted a photo of himself during pre-game preparations at the stadium today. He quotes Jeremiah 29:11 in the photo that he posted on Instagram.
Top it off with a #TheKidIsBack, which doesn’t appear in The King James version I used as a reference.
Mayfield is doing well leading the Sooners this season. He is completing passes at nearly 71 percent and has thrown for 15 touchdowns. The Sooners are 4-2,3-0 this season. Both of their losses have come to ranked opponents; Houston and Ohio State.
Still very much alive in the Big XII, Mayfield will be looking to exact a little revenge against his former squad and put his team in position for a conference championship.
