Miami football fans have fun with Catholics vs. Convicts game

“Catholics vs. Convicts” is definitely one of the cooler rivalry names in college sports — maybe the best since the Georgia-Florida game, previously known as The Worlds Largest Cocktail Party before being dubbed the River City Showdown now.

Coined in 1988 ahead of No. 1 ranked Miami playing the No. 4 ranked Fighting Irish, the name quickly caught fire. The name was a jab at Miami’s bad boy reputation through the 80’s and Notre Dame religious affiliations.

In anticipation of this years iteration of the game, a couple of Miami fans are having a little fun with the moniker.

The costume works on a couple of levels for the bearded Hurricane supporters. With Halloween around the corner, this is part rivalry spirit and part Halloween fun time.

This game will lack the luster and appeal that was originally anticipated. Miami has come undone since losing to Florida State and Notre Dame has struggled to win games all season. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET.
