With the start of the 2016-17 college basketball season just around the corner, it is time to take a look at the official preseason rankings. On Monday afternoon, the Associated Press released its preseason AP Top 25 poll.
Entering the season, the Duke Blue Devils hold the No. 1 spot in the nation and earned 58 of a possible 65 first-place votes.
Others receiving first-place votes were No. 2 Kentucky, defending national champions No. 4 Villanova and No. 5 Oregon. Rounding out the top five is No. 3 Kansas.
Last year’s national runner-up North Carolina sits just outside of the top five at No. 6.
