Two members of the Texas football team earned weekly Big 12 honors for their performances in Saturday’s 35-34 upset win over the then-unbeaten Baylor Bears. On Monday, it was announced that quarterback Shane Buechele and star running back D’Onta Foreman have each picked up an honor.
Foreman was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. It was the first weekly award of his career.
On Saturday, Foreman rushed 32 times for 250 yards and two touchdowns; becoming the first Texas player since Jamaal Charles in 2007 to surpass 1,000 yards rushing on the season. Foreman now has 1,105 rushing yards on the season.
For the true freshman Buechele, it was his third Newcomer of the Week award this season.
This season, Buechele has thrown for 2,013 yards and 17 touchdowns; both freshman school records. Buechele is also on the verge of setting multiple other school records for a first-year player.
Texas returns to action with a trip to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech. Kickoff from Jones AT&T Stadium is set for noon ET on FOX Sports 1.
