Maryland women’s basketball team beat opponent by 129 points

Bluefield State just wasn’t ready.

On Wednesday night, the No. 6 Maryland Terrapins took on Division II Bluefield State and showed the entire country that they are ready for the2016-17 college basketball season. When the final whistle blew, it was Maryland who earned an incredible 146-17 win.

Maryland shut out Bluefield State in the second half.

If it were not an exhibition game, the Terrapins would have broken the NCAA Division I record for margin of victory in a women’s game (102 points).

“I thought tonight was a good tuneup for us,” said Maryland coach Brenda Frese after the game. “We have so many new players between our freshmen and Ieshia Small. We played with a lot of enthusiasm and played really hard. A lot of great things, and we got rid of those jitters.”

Freshman Blair Watson led all scorers with 29 points, and added 10 rebounds on the night.

Maryland officially opens its 2016-17 campaign on Nov. 13 against UMass Lowell.
