Last week, it was reported that Jalen Hurd was set to transfer from the Tennessee Volunteers.
It was an abrupt decision, but the star running back is explaining his decision. On Monday, Hurd released a detailed letter detailing his decision to move on from the Vols program.
“Coming to Tennessee, I understood the read-option offense may not be the best fit for me, but I put that aside for my love of Tennessee and wanting to be part of a beloved program,” Hurd wrote. “While I had hoped for scheme adjustments to suit my strengths, this did not happen on a consistent enough basis.”
The complete reasoning for the decision — which he thought about for “quite sometime” — can be seen below.
Hurd had over 500 total yards and five touchdowns at the time of his departure.
It will be interesting to see where his career leads him next.
