UCF’s Drico Johnson named defensive player of the week

Drico Johnson was a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball for UCF Knights last weekend and he has picked up a national honor for his efforts.

On Tuesday, the Football Writers Association of America announced Johnson has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 10 performance during the Knights’ dominant win over Tulane.

Johnson scored two defensive touchdowns and had six tackles in the game.

The senior defensive back gave UCF a 13-6 lead with a 30-yard fumble return in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Johnson added an 86-yard interception return for a touchdown

Johnson is now on the Bronko Nagurski Watch List.

The winner will be chosen from those five finalists who are part of the 2016 FWAA All-America Team.

The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet, presented by ACN, will be held on Mon., Dec. 5, at the Charlotte Convention Center.
