Count Rick Pitino among the coaches and players to weigh in on the recent election of Donald Trump as president. Mixing honesty and common sense, Pitino tells the room of reporters what he thinks Trump needs to do do to right his wrongs. The answer? Apologize.

Pitino echos sentiments countless others have expressed, but also mentions he intends to support Trump now that he is the President-Elect. A less than resounding endorsement, Pitino starts by saying, “He’s our elected president, and you can protest all you want, he’s not resigning.”
Trump’s election has been met with an uproar since he lost the popular vote, but won the electoral college. Pitino joins Stan Van Gundy, Gregg Popovich and even Texas’ Shaka Smart who made similar, though more strongly worded statements this week.
One year ago, Pitino took a jab at Trump after he made racially insensitive comments about Mexicans. Prior to a tournament in Mexico City, Pitino said “unlike some political candidates, we love Mexico”.
