Missouri fires assistant Jackie Shipp for improper conduct

The Mizzou Tigers will head into their final game of the season without one of their coaches. The university decided to dismiss defensive line coach Jackie Shipp after he argued with a player prior to the game against Tennessee last week.

Shipp did not coach in that game, did not return home to Columbia with the team, and did not attend the coaches meeting on Tuesday.

The nature of the argument was not made immediately available.

Missouri head coach Barry Odom released a statement addressing the matter:

Shipp was a late addition to the Mizzou coaching staff and was in his first year with the team. He was receiving a salary of $385,000 and was not available to for comment.

The Tigers will finish the season against Arkansas on Saturday with graduate assistant Neal Renna handling the coaching duties. Renna has worked primarily with defensive linemen to this point but has been coaching the entire defensive line since last Saturday.
