Listen: Aretha Franklin’s national anthem on Thanksgiving

Prior to Thursday’s first game of the NFL’s Thanksgiving triple-header between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul herself, sat behind the piano at Ford Field to perform the Star Spangled Banner.

As you would expect, Aretha Franklin put her own spin on the national anthem, going well past the over/under for a rendition that lasted more than four minutes.

That’s what you would call, “taking the crowd to church.”

Whatever you thought about Aretha Franklin’s rendition of the national anthem, at least we can all appreciate it was better than that Andy Grammer guy laying around during halftime.

The Lions are currently tied with the Vikings, 10-10, midway through the third quarter with first place in the NFC North on the line.
