Tom Izzo apologizes to players for tough start to schedule

The Michigan State Spartans’ tough start to the 2016-17 college basketball season continued on Thursday, when the team fell to the Baylor Bears, 73-58, at the Battle 4 Atlantis which dropped them to 3-3.

After the game, head coach Tom Izzo spoke to the media and took the moment to apologize to his players for the rough schedule they’ve faced early on.

Michigan State has already faced Arizona and Kentucky, and still has matchups with Wichita State and Duke coming up.

“I actually apologized to my team,” Izzo said told via ESPN.

“And yet, I’ve always played a tough schedule. You know what? You can take it as an excuse, you can take it as the truth, I don’t give a damn. I’m telling you what I did. This ain’t on them. It’s on me.

“We were moving the ball and really playing well I thought through the first half. I just think we looked awfully tired. I can accept that that’s my fault, not theirs.”

Michigan State returns to action tomorrow afternoon against the Shockers.

Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET at Imperial Arena at Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.
